The open call for the third issue of Sälä magazine is now open! This issue’s theme is “Nourishment”. We explore significance and meaning put into design, what makes ordinary pieces exceptional, and the parts of us that are hungry for aesthetics and functionality. Or maybe a thirst for something else, a new ingredient? What needs do we feed with design and how do we consume it? What are the objects and elements of nourishment?
As with our previous issue, the theme can be interpreted and reflected in the works in many different ways.
We are looking for design works, written pieces, essays and all sorts of projects based in Finland to be featured in our third issue, which will be published in August 2026. Sälä covers various fields of Finnish design including but not limited to physical pieces, visual communication projects, spatial works and more. Our previous issue featured submitted design works and articles from a variety of professionals, students and freelancers of different fields.
Both new productions and already published works are welcome, and you may submit several pieces in the same application.

Our third issue will be published in English. However, you’re welcome to submit texts in Finnish — just note that these will be translated into English.

In your application, please include a short introduction of yourself and your work, and attach 2–5 images of visual projects. For written content, you can submit a finished article, essay, or other piece as a PDF or DOCX attachment.
